MLK Jr. Says Such A Thing As Too Late – Is Today Too Late?
Do you ever get the feeling that it’s too late? Have you ever used it as an excuse to not pursue something–because it was too late? I have, and I kick myself in retrospect every time. There are windows of opportunity that do close, but we are facing a wide open one welcoming us through. Whatever it is you want to actualize in your life, or to set in motion to better the lives of posterity–follow through, and follow through while the window is open, before it is too late.
MLK spoke the words below years ago, and their omnipotent message rings louder today than in their time, with more hope and more possibility than ever before. It’s not too late, it’s just right.
“We are now faced with the fact, my friends, that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there is such a thing as being too late. Procrastination is still the thief of time. Life often leaves us standing bare, naked, and dejected with a lost opportunity. The tide in the affairs of men does not remain at flood — it ebbs. We may cry out desperately for time to pause in her passage, but time is adamant to every plea and rushes on. Over the bleached bones and jumbled residues of numerous civilizations are written the pathetic words, “Too late.” ~ MLK Jr.
Today, we live in a more opportunistic period in history, where we can act and implement influential strategies more readily than ever before.
It’s not too late, yet. It may have behooved us to act earlier, but it’s not too late. The urgency presses as problems abound. These only present more opportunities to act and serve toward bettering the world in meaningful ways.
The time is just right. Change is ripe and waiting for you to take a bite. In the age of knowledge and information, we’re living with the gift of the Internet, where all our voices can be heard as social media outlets allow for greater connection, communication and collaboration. The world is a welcoming place for aspiring activists.
If you have something to say–say it. If there’s something you can do–do it. If you want to become involved, see what’s going on and support or join how you see fit.
If we don’t act and find unified betterment sooner than later, it may very well be too late, but change is in motion and you can facilitate it by significantly by taking even the smallest of steps. As long as you’re moving in the direction of progressive action or living for what you love, you’re making a dent in the world. “Tomorrow is today,” and today is not too late.
